Commemorating the 34th straight season of operation for the DIRTcar Racing organization and founding member facility Cayuga County Fair Speedway, all 34 days leading up to the historic event are filled with important news, notes and nostalgia, each continuing to showcase the biggest motorsports extravaganza of the summer --- including the richest race ever scheduled in the history of the popular Route 31 oval.
The countdown until DIRTcar All-Star Weekend has reached 15 days, and with it comes the inaugural running of the 15-lap Exemption Dash featuring some of the hottest Big-Block Modified drivers in the region. As part of ASW Saturday activity on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds, the five and a half-mile sprint boasts a full purse for the Big-Block Modified qualifiers and more importantly automatically locks into the pre-race draw the top-two finishers for the history-making $20,000-to-win All-Star 100 on Sunday, July 19. The first half of the qualifying trail has already landed defending overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar champion Billy Decker (Cayuga County) and ’04 Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block titlist Gary Tomkins (Canandaigua) in the dash along with weekly DIRTcar track point chasers Kevin Bolland (Lernerville) and Jeff Brownell Jr. (Glen Ridge). ‘Super Matt’ Sheppard (Lebanon Valley), ‘The Doctor’ Danny Johnson (Orange County) and ‘A.J. Slideways’ Alan Johnson also received early bids through June. Upcoming Super DIRTcar Series shows at Ransomville Speedway and Fulton Speedway, July 3-4, along with Great Canadian Tour (July 9-12) stops at Brockville Ontario Speedway, Autodromes Granby and Drummond, and Cornwall Motor Speedway are among the remaining qualifiers, as are Independence Day holiday specials at Can-Am Motorsports Park (July 3) and Tri-City Speedway (July 5).
