2007 Season Review: In admittedly his most disappointing season of the new millennium, Tomkins still ended the Advance Auto Parts Series with three wins ---all at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park--- eight front-five finishes and 15 top-10 tour tallies in the 31 races run which positioned him ninth in the final overall Hoosier Tire Mr. DIRTcar Championship point standings. He led 86 laps en route to his three RWR victories and added four qualifying heat race wins in tour competition. Sharing Saturday night stops at area hometrack Canandaigua Speedway and Can-Am Motorsports Park up north, Tomkins won two of his five main events at Canandaigua to bolster his ‘Land of Legends’ career total to 39 which ranks him sixth all-time.

Advance Auto Parts Series History: After enduring 17 years of short-track competition to register his first major DIRTcar Championship in 2004, Tomkins has been striving to recapture the potent combination ever since. The ‘Tomahawk’ finally arrived on the scene in convincing fashion in '02 after scoring his initial Advance Auto Parts Series wins. He posted four more tour triumphs in '03 and the next year reached the pinnacle of his trade teamed with Elaine James Motorsports by claiming DIRTcar NorthEast's ultimate Big-Block prize --- the overall Hoosier Tire Mr. DIRTcar Modified Championship. Standing 12th on the all-time Advance Series win list, Tomkins has recorded six of his 15 Advance Series wins at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park, with Hagerstown (Md) Speedway and Canandaigua (NY) Speedway the only other tracks he has doubled up at.

DIRTcar Racing Record: A diehard DIRTcar driver for over two decades, Tomkins made his first Big-Block Modified start in 1990 to set the stage for a successful career on both the Central New York circuit and in Advance Auto Parts Series competition. He first partnered with Doug Dulen and former co-owner Bill Trout at the end of 1996, then joined forces with Jim Bechy to tackle the Advance Series in 2004-05, before settling into the local track/tour routine with current team owner Dulen. Garnering track titles at Rolling Wheels (2) and Brewerton Speedway, his career count now stands at 72 first-place trophies which includes back-to-back season bests of 14 checkered flags collected in 2004 & ‘05.
Fun Fact: As soon as the trackside action concluded last autumn on the DIRTcar Racing NorthEast circuit, Tomkins loaded up his family and headed around the world seeking fame and fortune in the land downunder. He made his way to Australia in late November of 2007 for a whistlestop tour, contending at such faraway ovals as Brisbane (DNF), Maryborough (1st in the Roosters Cup) and Parramatta (DQ’d for car noise in the Summer Slam).
